Humphrey Crowns Spelling Bee Champs; Valley View Spelling Bee is Next
The district-wide competition is Feb. 3.

Humphrey Middle School named its grade level spelling champions Thursday after several hours of competition.
Kyara Chisolm (6th grade), Ximena Nevarez (7th grade) and Kira Espinili (8th grade) will represent the Bolingbrook school at the Valley View School District 365U Spelling Bee on Feb. 3.
Chisolm spelled “henna” correctly in round six and “character” correctly in round seven. Other words she got correct were dejected, giraffe, hurricane, hazard and inane. Samantha Welko was second missing on “innate” in round six. Judith Bediako took third missing on “biopsy” in the fifth round.

Nevarez won the 7th grade bee in round 18 by spelling “machismo” and “metaphor” correctly. Among other words she got right were ninja, bambino, pickle, stringy, monsoon, panic, protein, and relevant. Kristian Arzola was second, missing on plateau. Edwin Dominguez took third, going out in the fourth round.
Espinili spelled “omnivorous” correctly in the sixth round and “confetti” correctly to win it. She also correctly spelled algebra, barley, denture, reptile and teriyaki. Sail Martinez was second, missing “sable.” Zachary Skudlarek beat Kyrez Williams in a spell-off to take third.
