“Everyone felt our former emblem wasn’t sharp enough,” said Principal Dan Laverty. “This new one really stands out.”

The Humphrey students, staff and PTO all had a hand in selecting the new emblem. Art teacher Adam Thas designed about a dozen potential emblems and, after PTO members narrowed the choices down to three, students voted on their favorite emblem last spring.

“Reaction has been very positive,” Laverty said. “Because the kids selected it, they’re very excited about it.”

The new emblem can be seen on the outside wall by Door 1, on the gym wall and in an area between the boys and girls bathrooms in the hallway leading to the gym. Laverty said the outdoor sign will be changed sometime during the school year.

This is the third emblem in Humphrey’s history. The initial emblem, an Indian warrior head, was changed to what Laverty called a “robot head” about a decade ago.
