Jane Addams Sixth-Grader Wins Valley View Spelling Bee
Six VVSD students will advance to the Will County Spelling Bee next month.

Cristian Melendez spelled “igneous” correctly in the 10th round Thursday night to win the Valley View School District 365U Spelling Bee.
The Jane Addams Middle School 6th grader earned the title after Lukancic 7th grader Arta Osmani misspelled “Rottweiler” and Martinez 6th grader Zoey Anthony missed on “glockenspiel” in the 9th round. Osmani took second in a spell-off.

Osmani, Anthony, Melendez, Anthony, Brooks 7th grader Simran Sanghera and Humphrey 6th grader Kyara Chisholm will represent VVSD at the Will County Spelling Bee March 5 at Lewis University. Chisolm and Sanghera tied for fifth place. Martinez 8th grader Morgan Franzen was fourth.
Melendez won it by correctly spelling Slav, fiend, terracotta, cilantro, rouge, jaguar, dearth, humble and commissar. Osmani was right on herbivore, alligator, pyre, necessary, mediocre, fathom, aquatic and hurricane. Anthony was perfect on hazelnut, abide, allegro, forlorn, regime, flourish, womanly and guitar.
Franzen went out in the sixth round misspelling “academy.” Sanghera missed on manhandle and Chisholm was wrong on bolivar, both in the 4th round.

Brooks 6th grader Japmanjit Singh was 7th. And Addams 7th grader Julia Staggs was 8th.
