More Than 200 Volunteers Help Build Playground at Tibbott Elementary

The new playground will bring 600 kids in Bolingbrook one step closer to having the childhood they deserve.

BOLINGBROOK, IL — Despite pouring rain for half the day, more than 200 volunteers from Target and John R. Tibbott Elementary School along with organizers from KaBOOM! and residents of the Bolingbrook community teamed up to build a new community playground at John R. Tibbott Elementary School today, according to a news release from the school.

Designed in August when children from the neighborhood put crayons to paper to draw their dream playground, the new play space includes rockblocks and a triple racer slide. The new playground will bring 600 kids in Bolingbrook one step closer to having the childhood they deserve.

“Tibbott School is excited to bring a safe play space to the children,” said Ana Wilson, Principal at John R. Tibbott School. “Bridging learning and play helps us connect all components of a child’s educational experience.”

As part of the construction, volunteers assembled the playground from start to finish in less than six hours. They mixed and poured thousands of pounds of concrete and moved enough safety surfacing to cover more than 9 NBA-sized basketball courts.
