Shots Fired In Woods Lead To Bolingbrook School Lockdown: Cops

Officers were called to an area north of Winston Woods Park, 200 Winston Drive, for the reported sound of gunshots at 11:28 a.m. Thursday.

BOLINGBROOK, IL — Two teenagers were taken into custody Thursday after a report of gunshots near Winston Woods Park, which sent a nearby elementary school into lockdown, according to a release from Bolingbrook Police.

Officers were called to an area north of Winston Woods Park, 200 Winston Drive, for the reported sound of gunshots at 11:28 a.m. Thursday.

Police said officers were immediately sent to the nearby Wood View Elementary School, which was placed on a soft lockdown. The building was secured, and classes remained in session.

After a short investigation, officers found Justin Kaye, 18, of Bolingbrook, and a 17-year-old juvenile near the 700 block of North Bolingbrook Drive, police said. Two handguns were recovered at the scene, and both were taken into custody.

Police said that Kaye and the juvenile were shooting at bottles in the wooded area where they were found.

Kaye was charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm, aggravated unlawful use of weapon, unlawful use of weapon, possession of a firearm (no FOID) and possession of ammunition (no FOID). He was taken to the Will County Adult Detention Facility.

Police said the 17-year-old is facing the same charges as Kaye.
