Bucktown Burglar Nabbed After Sunday Break-in Attempt

The suspect in a Bucktown burglary last month was arrested Sunday morning after a police foot chase in Wicker Park.

CHICAGO, IL - The suspect in a Bucktown burglary last month that was caught on video was arrested over the weekend after trying to break into a building in Wicker Park.

The March 18 burglary in the 1600 block of N. Bell Ave. made headlines when the victim, Miguel Martinez, told ABC Chicago that police would not investigate despite having clear evidence of the break-in, which included the theft of thousands of dollars worth of electronics, on camera.

It took nearly a month, and an eyewitness to a break-in in Wicker Park Sunday morning for the man to be arrested.

Antwoyn Carroll, 20, of the 1300 block of N. Leavitt St. was seen trying to open a door on Hirsch Street in between Oakley and Bell avenues around 11 a.m. Sunday and arrested shortly after a brief police chase, according to DNAinfo Chicago.

Police officers happened to be around the corner of the Hirsch Street break-in Sunday and began a chase when Carroll was seen running on the grounds of Sabin Magnet School.

Police have warned residents of both North Side communities of an increase in home burglaries recently.
