BUFFALO GROVE, IL — Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10) announced Monday his Community Project Funding submissions to the House Appropriations Committee. The Committee is considering 15 requests per office as part of the 2023 federal appropriations legislation.

Among the requests is $1 million for the Wheeling School District Federally Qualified Health Center, with the recipient being Community Consolidated School District 21.

Project Description: Funding for this project would establish a new on-site Federally Qualified Health Center in Wheeling’s School District 21. Establishing this new community anchor would improve overall population health, increase access to quality and affordable health care, and expand mental health services. Some benefits this center aims to provide include educational testing, screening for new students, and space for professional development and for community organizations to meet and collaborate on community needs. Through this project, the district would also address social determinants of health services, such as combatting homelessness and transportation challenges for underserved students and families. Establishing this facility would help address many unmet needs in the Wheeling school district and community at large.

Schneider’s submissions recommend local projects in need of funding to the Committee, which will scrutinize projects before determining whether or not to include the projects in funding legislation. After passage through committee, the legislation must be approved by the House and the Senate, and signed by the President. Schneider’s office received more than seventy applications for funding.

“These community projects represent programs that, should they be funded by the Appropriations Committee, will benefit wide areas and large numbers of people in the Tenth District. These projects could generate economic growth, improve access to mental health services, reduce flooding, and enhance community safety. Funding any one of these projects would be a great lift for all of the Tenth District and reason to celebrate. I am grateful for the Appropriations’ Committee’s due consideration,” Schneider (IL-10) said.
