$34K Scam, Firearm Charges: Buffalo Grove Police Blotter

Other reports from the three-week period include vehicle burglaries, DUI arrests, retail theft and a portable toilet fire.

BUFFALO GROVE, IL — The following information comes from the Buffalo Grove Police Department and court records as a record of police activity, including incidents reported by the public and arrests made by officers. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state and may be dropped or reduced. Everyone arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

$34,100 SCAM

A person in the 200 block of St. Mary's Parkway reported July 5 that scammers claiming to be affiliated with Amazon and the Federal Trade Commission stole $34,100.

Police said the investigation remains ongoing.

AGGRAVATED BATTERY AND FIREARM CHARGES

Ernie L. Dotson, of Arlington Heights, was arrested July 11 and charged with aggravated domestic battery, aggravated discharge of a firearm and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon.

Dotson was assigned an Aug. 7 court date in Rolling Meadows.

VEHICLE BURGLARIES

A person in the 1500 block of Johnson Drive reported July 17 that someone entered a vehicle and stole a backpack containing medication.

In a separate incident, someone entered a vehicle in the 400 block of Le Parc Circle and stole $20 on July 20.

PROPERTY DAMAGE

Someone set part of a portable toilet on fire in the 600 block of Checker Drive at approximately 1:45 a.m. July 11.

Buffalo Grove firefighters responded and extinguished the fire.

A person in the 1700 block of Johnson Drive reported July 18 that a sliding glass door had been shattered.

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE

Oscar G. Martinez-Morales, 31, of Waukegan, was arrested shortly before midnight July 4 in the 1100 block of West Lake Cook Road.

He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and transporting an open container of alcohol. Martinez-Morales was assigned a July 22 court date in Waukegan.

Brian V. Lewkowsky, 51, of Buffalo Grove, was arrested at approximately 3:04 a.m. July 5 in the 1200 block of North Arlington Heights Road and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.

He was assigned a July 29 court date in Waukegan.

Rodolfo Ivan Mejia Buendia was arrested shortly before 1 a.m. July 12, in the 800 block of Golfview Terrace.

He was charged with aggravated driving under the influence, driving with a revoked license, improper lane use and transporting an open alcohol container. He was assigned a July 15 court date in Rolling Meadows.

Evan Mikrut, 32, of Buffalo Grove, was arrested July 19 near Bernard Drive and Cherrywood Road.

Mikrut was charged with driving under the influence, failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash, improper lane use, operating an uninsured vehicle and failing to notify the Illinois secretary of state of an address change.

He was assigned an Aug. 6 court date in Rolling Meadows.

RETAIL THEFT

Michael A. Calvert, 48, of North Chicago, was arrested July 18 at a business in the 1500 block of East Deerfield Parkway and charged with retail theft.

He was assigned an Aug. 3 court date in Waukegan.

Daniel A. Conklin, 41, of Genoa City, Wisconsin, was arrested at the same time and location and charged with retail theft and obstructing identification.

He was assigned an Aug. 11 court date in Waukegan.

SUSPENDED OR REVOKED LICENSE

Thomas M. Gurley, 29, of Chicago, was arrested July 9 near Dundee Road and Crofton Lane and charged with driving with a suspended license.

He was assigned an Aug. 21 court date in Mundelein.

Mahagonee N. Mapp, 27, of Wheeling, was arrested July 10 near Buffalo Grove Road and Brandywyn Lane.

Mapp was charged with driving with a suspended license and making an improper turn at an intersection. She was assigned an Aug. 21 court date in Mundelein.

Elkin J. Sosa Barrientos, 28, of Palatine, was arrested July 12 near Lake Cook and Buffalo Grove roads.

He was charged with driving with a suspended license, suspended registration and a child-restraint violation. He was assigned an Aug. 14 court date in Mundelein.

Savannah K. Williams, 24, of Maywood, was arrested July 21 near Weiland and Lake Cook roads.

Williams was charged with driving with a suspended license and operating a vehicle with suspended registration. She was assigned a Sept. 11 court date in Mundelein.

DAMAGE TO UNATTENDED VEHICLE

Jason Zhivotovsky, 21, of Buffalo Grove, was arrested July 1 in the 0-100 block of Raupp Boulevard and charged with failing to report damage to an unattended vehicle.

He was assigned an Aug. 14 court date in Mundelein.
