Accused Thieves At Woodman's Attempt Door Dash Getaway: Blotter

Two men are accused of approaching a Door Dash delivery driver after stealing goods from Woodman's Market: Buffalo Grove Blotter.

BUFFALO GROVE, IL — The following information comes from the Buffalo Grove Police Department (except when noted) and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced.

Updated information may be available from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

UNLICENSED DRIVER

Edwin Jimenez Catalan, 20, of the 0-100 block of E Old Willow Road, Prospect Heights, is accused of being an unlicensed driver, illegal lane usage, and was arrested at 2:42 a.m. Sept. 21 at Wolf Road and Milwaukee Avenue. His bond was set at $2,500, and he was assigned a court date of Oct. 16 in Mundelein.

  • Alvin Shaun Phelon, 32, of the 900 block of W Lakeside Place, Chicago, is accused of two counts of retail theft, and was arrested at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 21 in the parking lot of Woodman's Market, 1550 Deerfield Parkway, Buffalo Grove. An officer who was in the store regarding another incident was approached by employees, who stated two men had left the store with baskets full of merchandise not in bags. Police saw the men, including Phelon, loading the merchandise in the back of a car, which turned out to be driven by a Door Dash employee. The Door Dash employee said they did not know the men and had been asked for a ride from them. Phelon was scheduled to appear in bond court for a Sept. 22 hearing in Waukegan.
  • Darryl Oliver, 39, of the 500 block of N Lavergne Avenue, Chicago, is accused of retail theft in the incident described above, and was arrested at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 21 in the Woodman's Parking Lot, 1550 Deerfield Parkway. He was scheduled to appear in bond court for a Sept. 22 hearing.
  • Eric J. Elwell, 26, of the 0-100 block of E Waverly Place, Arlington Heights, is accused of retail theft, and was arrested at 2:09 p.m. Sept. 23 at Walgreens. He was assigned a court date of Oct. 9 in Waukegan.

DRIVING ON A SUSPENDED/REVOKED LICENSE

  • Michael R. Jenkins, 40, of the 1400 block of W Garfield Boulevard, Chicago, is accused of driving on a suspended/revoked license, illegal lane usage, and was arrested during an investigation of a property damage automobile accident at 7:17 a.m. Sept. 18 at Lake Cook and Weiland roads. His bond was set at $2,500, and he was assigned a court date of Oct. 16 in Mundelein.
  • Carlise Smith, Jr., 25, of the 4900 block of W Washington Boulevard, Chicago, is accused of driving on a suspended driver's license, a lighted lamps violation, not having insurance for the vehicle, and was arrested at 11:41 p.m. Sept. 18 in the 1500 block of E Deerfield Parkway. His bond was set at $2,500, and he was assigned a court date of Oct. 16 in Mundelein.
  • Juan Molina Delacruz, 40, of the 0-100 block of Crestview Terrace, Buffalo Grove, is accused of driving on a suspended/revoked license, operating an uninsured vehicle, making an improper U-turn in a roadway, and was arrested at 6:05 a.m. Sept. 22 at Deerfield and Bush parkways. His bond was set at $2,500, and he was assigned a court date of Oct. 16 in Mundelein.

INCIDENTS

THEFT $500 AND UNDER

  • A resident in the 1500 block of Anderson Lane reported at 5:54 p.m. Sept. 21 a theft of one of their front porch flags. The resident stated they realized an American flag was missing at around 1:30 p.m. and they believe someone took it. They said they don't have any surveillance cameras attached to the house, and they had already talked to neighbors. They said this is the second time something of this nature had occurred. One week ago, the resident said they found a porch flag lying in the middle of the street, but did not report it to police.
  • An employee at Bucky's Express Mobil Station, 10 W Dundee Road, called police at 2:48 p.m. Sept. 22 to report an unknown male had taken five 24-ounce beer cans from the cooler and placed them in a backpack. The man left the business without paying for them and fled on a bicycle.

DUMPING/LITTERING

A resident in the 700 block of Vernon Court called police at 3:59 p.m. Sept. 18 to report someone who was seen near a landscaping truck and the person left trash in the resident's yard. The resident said it's an ongoing issue and the person has left empty liquor bottles and other trash in the neighborhood while working in the area. Police found the person, and when confronted about the incident, they told police they had to urinate and had used a bottle to empty their bladder. Police warned the person not to leave trash behind and retrieve the bottle.

THEFT OVER $500

A resident in the 800 block of Vernon Court reported at 8:53 a.m. Sept. 21 that they had hired a moving company and a collection of 8-10 Invicta watches stored in a drawer were missing after the movers had completed their work. The watches were valued at around $2,000. The resident believes one of the mover stole the watches.

BURGLARY WITH FORCIBLE ENTRY

A resident in the 1300 block of Rose Boulevard reported at 7:20 a.m. Sept. 21 that their mother saw a light on in the main level of the home at midnight. When they went to turn it off, she noticed furniture was in disarray, but didn't notice anything missing. They also found that the front door was open with pry marks. The back door was also slightly open, but the top dead bolt was still engaged.

RETAIL THEFT

An employee of Woodman's Market, 1550 E Deerfield Parkway, called police at 2:14 p.m. Sept. 21 to report they observed someone on a security camera taking rice, isopropyl alcohol, and vodka from the store without paying. The man was described as white, bald, around 6 foot tall, 40-50 years old. The employee said he left in a blue Mini Cooper with an Illinois license plate.

STOLEN AUTOMOBILE

A resident in the 0-100 block of University Drive reported at 5:21 p.m. Sept. 21 that their 2018 Mazda CX5 had been stolen from the driveway. The resident believes they had left the car unlocked with the keys in the car.
