Coronavirus Violations At Reception; Angry Census Worker: Blotter

A number of state COVID-19 guidelines were being violated at a wedding reception; a census worker got angry: Buffalo Grove Blotter.

BUFFALO GROVE, IL — The following information comes from the Buffalo Grove Police Department (except when noted) and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced.

Updated information may be available from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

ARRESTS

DRIVING LICENSE REVOKED/SUSPENDED

  • Anthony James Seay, 30, of the 1400 block of S 16th Avenue, Maywood, is accused of driving with license revoked/suspended, registration expiration, plate/permit display violation, and was arrested at 6:04 p.m. Sept. 9 at Busch Parkway and Commerce Court. His bond was set at $2,500, and he is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 16.
  • Tony Vazquez, 29, of the 5600 block of W 22nd Place, Cicero, is accused of driving on a revoked/suspended license, speeding over the statutory limit (60 miles per hour in a 40 mph zone), and was arrested at 5:45 p.m. Sept. 7 in the 600 block of Deerfield Parkway. His bond was set at $2,500, and he was given a court date of Oct. 16 in Mundelein.

UNLICENSED DRIVER

  • Jose A. Rolon, 33, of the 500 block of McHenry Road, Wheeling, is accused of being an unlicensed driver, illegal lane usage, and was arrested at 6:11 p.m. Sept. 3 at Dundee Road near Weidner Road. His bond was set at $2,500, and he was assigned a court date of Oct. 9 in Mundelein.
  • Derry D. Essie, 38, of Racine, Wisconsin, is accused of being an unlicensed driver, operating an uninsured vehicle, not having valid vehicle registration, and was arrested at 12:54 a.m. Sept. 6 at Half Day Road and Apple Hill Lane. His bond was set at $2,500, and he was assigned a court date of Oct. 16 in Mundelein.

John R. Leonard, 43, of the 2000 block of Little Fort Road, Waukegan, is accused of driving under the influence of alcohol, failure to reduce speed for a crash, illegal lane usage, and was arrested at 9:31 p.m. Sept. 5 in the 0-100 block of N McHenry Road. His bond was set at $1,000, and he was assigned a court date of Sept. 23 in Waukegan.

INCIDENTS

SOLICITOR PERMITS/COMPLAINTS

Employees in the Buffalo Creek Apartments leasing office, 0-100 block of S Buffalo Grove Road, contacted police at 3:53 p.m. Sept. 4 regarding an unwanted person, who said they were with the Census and been at the property three straight days. When the person was told they could access residents through the lobby phone system, but would not be granted access in the building, the person got angry and began pounding the locked door to the office. When police met with the man, he said he was just doing his job and employees were being rude. Police asked the man to leave the area, for which he complied.

ORDINANCE VIOLATIONS

A person called police at 8:11 p.m. Sept. 4 to report patrons at a wedding reception were not following COVID-19 guidelines at a business in the 100 block of McHenry Road. When police arrived, the bride was giving a speech, and they observed two camera men and several standing patrons not wearing masks. Police also estimated around 50 people were inside. Police contacted the owner of the business, who said they would make an announcement to the wedding party.

DECEPTIVE PRACTICES

A Windowbrook Drive resident reported at 7 p.m. Sept. 3 that someone had convinced them to allow the person to remotely take over their computer. The resident said a message popped up saying the computer had a virus, and they needed to call a phone number. The resident called the number and spoke with the person who had taken over their computer remotely. The person wanted $190 to fix the issues. The resident realized something was suspicious when the person started navigating the computer, seeking a bank routing number. The resident hung up, but the person called back under another phone number. Police advised the resident to call their bank and change passwords.

THEFT $500 AND UNDER

A resident in the 800 block of Weidner Road called police at 4:43 p.m. Sept. 3 to report during the last few days, someone had stolen their daughter's bicycle from the parking garage. The bike had been hanging outside a storage locker and secured by a cable lock. Both the bike and cable were missing.

RETAIL THEFT

An employee of Rogan's Shoes, 1300 W Dundee Road, reported at 12:28 p.m. Sept. 4 an unknown woman had stolen a pair of shoes the night before. The shoes had a security tag, which had been removed by the woman with an unknown tool, prior to her shoving the shoes down her pants and shirt. Another female, who had entered the store with the woman, left earlier.

ANIMAL COMPLAINTS

A resident in the area of Bernard Drive and White Pine Road called police at 7:42 p.m. Sept. 10 to report they were walking their dog when they were knocked down by two other dogs. The resident started walked in the other direction of the dogs and a woman, who yelled at the dogs to say put after they were getting out of control. The dogs broke free from the woman, charged at the resident and knocked them down. When the resident fell backward, they hit their head on the ground, scratched their leg and landed on their own dog. The resident's dog injured one of its front legs. The woman grabbed control of her dogs and walked away. The resident went to the hospital to seek medical treatment and was diagnosed with a concussion. The resident said they have never seen the woman or her dogs before, and would contact 911 if they see them again.

BURGLARY FROM MOTOR VEHICLE

A resident in the 0-100 block of Oak Creek Drive reported at 10:35 p.m. Sept. 5 an unknown person had entered their unlocked vehicle on Aug. 28 and stole Versace sunglasses, valued at $300. Video surveillance of the individual was discovered and was shared with police.
