Arrest Made In Death Of 81-Year-Old Pedestrian: Buffalo Grove PD

A Hoffman Estates resident is accused of fatally striking the Buffalo Grove man while he was walking in April.

BUFFALO GROVE, IL — Following a six-month investigation, an arrest has been made stemming from an April incident in which a car fatally struck an 81-year-old Buffalo Grove man, who was walking at the time. Shalmil Naftaliev, 33, of the 3900 block of Whispering Trail in Hoffman Estates, is accused of aggravated driving under the influence for being over the legal limit of cannabis, and was arrested after turning himself in on Oct. 4.

Naftaliev was released and is due back in court on Nov. 3.

Police responded to a crash at 7:48 p.m. April 8, involving a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle on Buffalo Grove Road, north of Golf View Terrace. Police found the pedestrian, later identified as Alex Gorn, and took him to Northwest Community Hospital. He was later pronounced dead.

Naftaliev, who was the driver of the involved car, was on scene with his 2022 Chevy Silverado and reported no injuries.

The incident was investigated by the Buffalo Grove Police Department’s Traffic Unit with assistance from the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team.
