BG Singers Make National Appearance on Today Show

The local singing group has been performing the choral remake of "Truly Brave" and raising funds for cancer research.

A rehearsal clip of the BG Singers performing their choral remake of “Truly Brave” aired on the Today show for a few minutes on Friday, the Pioneer Press reports. The clip was played as part of the show’s surprise celebrating co-host Hoda Kotb’s birthday, according to the article.

“Truly Brave” is a campaign inspired by Kotb, a cancer survivor, and brought together singers Sara Bareilles and Cyndi Lauper create a music collaboration of their songs “Brave” and ”True Colors” to raise money for pediatric cancer research, according to Pioneer Press.

The BG Singers director-conductor was inspired to mobilize a community effort and lead to the choral arrangement of the song, according to the article. The Truly Brave Relay for Life team raised over $9,000. The BG Singers will hold a concert featuring the choral remake from Oct. 2 through 4 at the Community Arts Center in Buffalo Grove and tickets will go on sale on Sept. 4, according to the Pioneer Press.

Kotb’s fund-raising effort has raised over $500,000 for the American Cancer Society.
