Bicyclist In Critical Condition After Long Grove Hit-And-Run: Sheriff

Police are asking for assistance from anyone with dash cameras that may have been in the vicinity of the Sunday crash.

LONG GROVE, IL — A bicyclist involved in a hit-and-run crash Sunday remains in critical condition, and police are seeking the public's help in the case. According to the Lake County Sheriff's Office, a 63-year-old Kildeer man was struck by a pickup truck on Route 53 in Long Grove.

The Lake County Sheriff's Office is asking those who have a dash camera, including commercial vehicles with cameras, and traveled on Route 53, anywhere between Route 83 and Lake Cook Road, in Long Grove between 4:10 p.m. and 4:20 p.m. Sunday, to contact police at 847-377-4000.

At around 4:15 p.m., police responded to Route 53, west of Robert Parker Coffin Road, for a hit-and-run traffic crash, involving a bicyclist. The bicyclist was traveling south on Route 53 on the shoulder of the roadway. The driver of a grey pickup truck was also traveling south, passed a slower vehicle by driving onto the shoulder and into the grass. As the driver made this illegal maneuver, they struck the bicyclist and fled southbound on Route 53.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is asking that anyone who might have a dash camera, including commercial vehicles with cameras, to contact the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team at 847-377-4000.
