Buffalo Grove Approves Construction Bids For New Public Works Facility
The 173,000-square foot facility will be located at a former warehouse space on Leider Lane.

BUFFALO GROVE, IL — Saying it has saved nearly $30 million by reusing an old building, the Village of Buffalo Grove announced this week it has approved construction bids for the remodeling of a former warehouse space into a new public works facility. The new location will be located at 1650 Leider Lane.
According to the Village, the 173,00-square-foot facility will provide "enough space" for the current operations of the public works department and "well into the future." The facility will house all equipment and maintenance functions, an emergency operations center, vehicle wash as well as space for offices and workshops.
During remodeling and relocation, the Public Works Department will continue to operate from its 51 Raupp Boulevard headquarters.

The Village is using Fredrick Quinn Corporation as construction manager for the project. According to officials, FQC assisted the Village throughout the design phase of the project, which they say resulted into additional savings. The Village said it is using a shared risk model with a guaranteed maximum price contract totaling $17,967,980, including $804,923 in project contingency.
"This is an outstanding and monumental achievement, and it demonstrates to possibilities of creatively repurposing an existing building," Village President Eric Smith said. "This also wouldn't be possible without the Village's strong finances, including the AAA-rated bonds and capital fund reserves allocated to these improvements."
The Village identified the expansion of its public works operation as a high priority as part of its 2017 space needs study. Since the current center was dedicated in 1976, the Village’s population has more than tripled, according to officials.
