Buffalo Grove Approves Gas Tax

The 2-cent-per-gallon tax increase should bring in $400,000 more per year for the village. The funds will be used for street repairs.

BUFFALO GROVE, IL —The village of Buffalo Grove will impose a 2-cent-per-gallon gas tax starting next year with funds collected from the tax will pay for roadwork in town, the Daily Herald reports. Deputy Village Manager Christopher Stilling said it was cheaper to impose a gas tax, which will add about $400,000 per year to the city's coffers, than it would be to collect the funds by raising property taxes.

Stilling said the average Buffalo Grove resident will likely pay $15.82 more per year because of the gas tax while a property tax hike could mean $25 more per year, according to the Daily Herald.
