Buffalo Grove Dispensary Gets State Approval For Adult Use Sales

A state license for PDI Medical has been approved. Village officials have also approved a zoning ordinance allowing adult use sales.

BUFFALO GROVE, IL — A handful of additional dispensaries have gotten state approval to operate once marijuana becomes legal for recreational use in the New Year. Among the dispensaries getting the go-ahead from the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Division of Professional Regulation last week was PDI Medical Dispensary, 1623 Barclay Boulevard in Buffalo Grove.

The approval came days before an early Tuesday vote by the Buffalo Grove Village Board to allow recreational sales in town once it becomes legal on Jan. 1. PDI Medical Dispensary has been dispensing marijuana for medical purposes since 2018.

A dispensary with an early approval adult use dispensing organization license issued by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Division of Professional Regulation may not have local authority to make adult use cannabis sales to purchasers or may be prohibited from selling to adult use purchasers by other laws or regulations, according to the IDFPR.

Some North Suburbs Don't 'Just Say No' To Recreational Marijuana

Early Tuesday, after residents spoke up against allowing adult use sales for over four hours, trustees voted in favor of a zoning ordinance to allow businesses to apply to do so in town, according to the Daily Herald. The dispensaries would be allowed as a special use in nonresidential areas, according to the article. Buffalo Grove will limit the number of businesses allowed to sell marijuana to two.

The ordinance bans recreational dispensaries from operating as a cultivation center, craft grower, or a processing, infuser or transporting organization and any applicant must also hold a medical marijuana dispensing license, the Daily Herald reports.
