Buffalo Grove High Students Pitch 'Hoodie Hoop,' Win $2,500 at Startup Showcase

The Hoodie Hoop is meant to help string through drawstrings on sweatshirts, sweat pants, pajama pants and more.

BUFFALO GROVE, IL - Five students from Buffalo Grove High School won $2,500 after pitching their business to a group of investors at the Northwest Suburban High School District 214 Startup Showcase, according ot the Daily Herald.

Buffalo Grove High School student’s Brian Grunst, Emily Zint, Thomas Shirley, Greg Harner and William Sobecki came up with their business concept, the Hoodie Hoop, as part of the high school’s entrepreneurship class, which is in its inaugural year, the newspaper reports.

The Hoodie Hoop is meant to help string through drawstrings on sweatshirts. The hoop can also be used on sweatpants, pajama pants, swim trunks, backpacks, medical scrubs, athletic shorts and more.

The Hoodie Hoop was a hit at the recent startup showcase and the Buffalo Grove High School students, who are all from Arlington Heights, sold 75 of the devices before they even pitched their product to the judges, according to the Daily Herald. Judges at the showcase also offered the team pro-bono legal services for their device and another offered the team workspace in Chicago.
