Buffalo Grove Police Sergeant Retires After 25 Years

BUFFALO GROVE, IL — Following a law enforcement career that began in 1985, Buffalo Grove Police Sergeant Paul Jamil has retired. A member of the Buffalo Grove Police Department since 1997, Jamil's last day was on Jan. 5.

Jamil began his career in law enforcement in 1985, serving in the Marine Corps as a military police officer, according to a news release from the Village of Buffalo Grove. After his service, Jamil was a police officer with the Island Lake Police Department for seven years before being joining Buffalo Grove.

During his career with the department, he first served as a patrol officer, was assigned to the investigations unit from 2001 to 2004 and was a crime prevention officer in 2010. He was promoted to his last role of sergeant in 2014.

"Sergeant Jamil has dedicated his career to serving the community of Buffalo Grove, and I am grateful for his contributions to the department," Police Chief Brian Budds said. "We wish him well in his retirement."

Jamil focused his knowledge and experience in many areas, including DUI enforcement, for which he received many awards and recognitions, according to the news release. During his career, he also served as a field training officer, police volunteer liaison and honor guard team leader.

Jamil earned numerous awards over his many years of service with the department, which include several Unit Citations, multiple Employee of the Quarter honors, an Outstanding Achievement Award, a Life Saving Award and a Certificate of Commendation.
