Buffalo Grove Police Step Up Distracted Driving Enforcement During April Campaign

Increased patrols in Buffalo Grove will target texting, social media use and other distracted driving violations.

BUFFALO GROVE, IL — Buffalo Grove police are stepping up distracted driving enforcement this month as part of Distracted Driving Awareness Month. The department said it is partnering with the Illinois Department of Transportation, Illinois State Police and local law enforcement agencies across Illinois for the April campaign.

In Illinois, manually using an electronic communication device while driving is illegal.

Motorists in Buffalo Grove can expect increased patrols throughout the month looking for texting, social media use, video viewing and other distracted driving violations. The enforcement effort is part of a broader statewide campaign tied to April's focus on distracted driving awareness.

"Distracted driving puts everyone at risk, and even a quick glance at a phone can have devastating consequences," BGPD Commander Jon Officer said. "During the month of April, officers will be looking for distracted driving violations and reminding motorists to put the phone away and focus on the road."

The department also urged drivers to pull over and park safely if they need to send a message, check directions or return a call.
