Buffalo Grove To Unveil 'Lush Wooded Wetland' Near Mirielle Park
Work began in January to clear undesired and dead woody underbrush, according to Buffalo Grove officials.

BUFFALO GROVE, IL — The planted areas at Buffalo Grove's Mirielle Park have been overgrown with invasive species for some time. On Aug. 9, the newest natural area at a Village-owned natural park adjacent to the park will be unveiled during a special ceremony.
The event, which will include remarks from representatives of the Village of Buffalo Grove, CN Rail and American in Bloom, will begin at noon. The park is located at 2236 Avalon Drive.
According to officials, funding to fix the problem was secured through America in Bloom and CN’s Eco Connections From the Ground Up Grant Program. After securing the funding, the Village’s Forestry Division has transformed over an acre of this once forgotten outlot into the beginnings of a lush wooded wetland.

Officials said work began in January to clear undesired and dead woody underbrush, which has now been replaced with native woodland and wetland species. This transformation will support increased biodiversity and improved stormwater management in the area.
Noting that areas planted with native species are generally low maintenance, the Buffalo Grove Public Works Forestry Section will still perform routine maintenance in the area to ensure it remains clear of invasive species.
