Buffalo Grove Woman Charged With Predatory Sex Assault
The victim in the case is under 13 years old, authorities said.

BUFFALO GROVE, IL — A 43-year-old Buffalo Grove woman is free on bond after posting the required 10 percent of her $300,000 bail in a predatory criminal sexual assault case. Kimberly Schubert was arrested May 29 and faces two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a victim under 13 years old and two counts of possession of child pornography, according to a news release from the Buffalo Grove Police Department. Her bail was initially set at $1 million but was later reduced.
Authorities arrested a second suspect in the case, Jason Akai, 44, of Oak Forest June 20. He is charged with solicitation of child pornography and production of child pornography, both Class X felonies and related to crimes involving a child under 13 years old, police said.
Akai has been a committee chairman with a Cub Scouts pack in Oak Forest. Patch has not yet confirmed his current standing with the organization.

His bond was set at $1 million.
Authorities said the investigation into Schubert and Akai was launched after the Department of Health and Family Services received a tip from an out-of-state therapist, which lead to the Buffalo Grove Police Department's probe into the sex assault. That investigation lead to the charges against Schubert and led authorities to allegedly connect Akai to the distribution of child porn. A search was conducted at Akai's house.
