Buffalo Grove's Team Places 4th in 17th Annual Chicano Scholastic Bowl

Buffalo Grove High School students competed in the 17th annual Cinco de Mayo Chicano College Bowl competition on May 16 at Highland Park High School, sponsored by the Hispanos Unidos Club. In a field of 11 participating area high schools, Buffalo Grove's varsity team placed fourth.

The competition poses questions to students about Mexican-American history, while building a broader base of knowledge and instilling a sense of pride in their cultural heritage. Featured components of the event were a scholarship test and an oral Chicano history competition, based on two videos from the PBS Chicano Documentary series. Buffalo Grove's varsity team consisted of Adam Schoeneman, Diana Ramirez, and Ana Perez; Junior Varsity members were Rachel Svadlena, Jimin Kim, and Eduardo Aviles. Stephanie Ramos, BGHS teacher and English Language Learners Coordinator, is sponsor.
