Community Consolidated School District 21 is marking its tenth year since its Board of Education adopted Energy Conservation Guidelines. The savings tallied by District 21 in that time equals more than $3.4 million, or usage savings of over 29 percent.
“When the Board adopted these guidelines, never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that the savings and environmental impact could be this dramatic,” said Board of Education member Arlen S. Gould, who has served on the CCSD21 Board for 22 years.
The environmental impact of these savings translates into 3,703 cars not being driven for a year or having 455,734 seedlings grow into trees over 10 years.
