Charges Upgraded for Ex-Buffalo Grove High Teacher Accused of Stalking Student
The former math teacher sent inappropriate text messages to a 16-year-old student at the school, police said.
A former Buffalo Grove High School math teacher and football coach has been charged with stalking a student after he allegedly sent the 16-year-old girl several inappropriate text message, the Daily Herald reports.
Panagiotis Georgitsis , 43, of Elgin, was initially charged last month with misdemeanor disorderly conduct but those charges were upgraded Wednesday to felony stalking, the Lake County News-Sun reports. A $30,000 bond was set for Georgitsis.
Georgitsis was arrested in February after police said staff members at the school discovered the “behavior leading to the charges,” according to the news release. Georgitsis is accused of sending inappropriate electronic messages to a 16-year-old student while he was employed as a teacher at Buffalo Grove High School.

District 214 immediately placed Georgitsis on leave shortly after ”becoming aware of the situation,” a district spokeswoman told the Chicago Tribune. He had been employed with the district for 12 years.
Police said there is “no evidence other persons are involved.”
