Checkout Rescan Shows 52 Stolen Items: Buffalo Grove Police Blotter
A customer at Woodman's had a receipt for 56 items, but a rescan of her grocery cart showed 108 items were in it, according to police.

BUFFALO GROVE, IL — The following information comes from the Buffalo Grove Police Department (except when noted) and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced.
Updated information may be available from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

Aidas Gemskis, 45, of the 0-10 block of Essex Court, Hawthorn Woods, is accused of retail theft, and was arrested at 2:27 p.m. Jan. 12, at Woodman's 1550 E. Deerfield Parkway. The store's loss prevention officer saw Gemskis near the liquor department with a shopping cart filled with items. He then left the store without paying for the items, valued at $395.80. He was released on a $2,500 bond and a court date of Jan. 31 was assigned.
UNLAWFUL USE OF WEAPON

Nevan Ryan McDonald, 22, of Albion, Michigan, is accused of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, intent to deliver cannabis, possession of cannabis, and was arrested at 11:11 p.m. Jan. 12, at W. Dundee Road and Weidner Road. A bond hearing was scheduled for the next day.
BATTERY
Jose E. Arteaga, Jr., 48, of the 300 block of Plum Creek Drive, Wheeling, is accused of battery, and was arrested at 11:31 a.m. Jan. 14, following an incident at Dollar Tree, 1212 W. Dundee Road. A customer of the store met with police and said she was expressing her displeasure with the store's exchange policy when she said she got into an altercation with Arteaga, who was also a customer. An argument ensued, in which the woman said she was pushed.
DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE
Christina D. Wechsler, 24, of the 1100 block of Johnson Drive, Buffalo Grove, is accused of driving under the influence of alcohol, failure to remain at the scene of a vehicle damage accident, and was arrested at 8:29 p.m. Jan. 15, in the 1100 block of Johnson Drive. She was released on a bond and assigned a court date of Feb. 22.

RETAIL THEFT
- An employee at Woodman's, 1550 E. Deerfield Parkway, reported at 1:20 p.m. Jan. 10, a customer stole $37.83 of consumable goods by placing them in her purse and exiting the store without paying. The store wanted the woman to receive an adjudication ticket and to be trespassed from the store.
- An employee at Woodman's, 1550 E. Deerfield Parkway, called police at 3:01 p.m. Jan. 13, to report a shopper and walked out of the store with a cart filled with items, valued at $37.03, without paying. The shopper was adjudicated and trespassed from the store.
- An employee at Woodman's, 1550 E. Deerfield Parkway, reported at 2:09 p.m. Jan. 15, a customer had exited the store without paying for items she had in a shopping cart. The customer showed police a receipt for 56 items, totaling $140.20. The shopping cart was brought back into the store and the items were rescanned, totaling 108 items, valued at $395.73. The shopper was adjudicated and trespassed from the store. She was also told she's no longer welcome in the store.
CRIMINAL TRESPASS TO VEHICLE
- A resident in the 1200 block of E. Deerfield Parkway, called police at 8:40 a.m. Jan. 11, to report finding the interior compartments of her car had been ransacked. Nothing appeared to be stolen and there was no damage to the vehicle.
- A resident in the 1100 block of Windbrooke Drive reported at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 11, a burglary to their vehicle. She had left the car parked in front of her residence at 4 p.m. the prior day. When she returned to the vehicle prior to calling police, she noticed the contents of her glove compartment and center counsel were strewn about. She also noticed the contents of her trunk were in disarray. There were no signs of forced entry and nothing was missing.
