Trio Vandalizes Woodman's Bathroom: Buffalo Grove Police Blotter

BUFFALO GROVE, IL — The following information comes from the Buffalo Grove Police Department (except when noted) and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced.
Updated information may be available from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

DRIVING ON A SUSPENDED/REVOKED LICENSE

Aaron Chase Obiazi, 19, of the 500 block of Williamsburg Court, Wheeling, is accused of driving on a revoked license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, driving 15-20 mph over the speed limit (53 mph in a 35 mph zone), and was arrested at 4:04 p.m. Jan. 4, at Bernard Drive and Buffalo Grove Road. He was released on bond and assigned a court date of Feb. 7.
POSSESSION OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE

Luis R. Berros, 31, of the 5400 block of Riviera Boulevard, Plainfield, is accused of possession of a controlled substance, driving under the influence of intoxicating compounds, improper lane usage, and was arrested at 6:47 p.m. Jan. 8, at Route 83 and Aptakisic Road. No bond was issued and a court date of Jan. 9 was assigned.
UNLAWFUL USE OF A WEAPON
Latavion R. Johnson, 20, of the 600 block of W. Englewood Avenue, Chicago, is accused of unlawful possession of a firearm, illegal possession of ammunition, unlawful use of a jackknife, and was arrested at 1:12 a.m. Jan. 10, in the 600 block of Stanford Lane. He was released on a $2,500 bond and was assigned a court date of Feb. 23.

RETAIL THEFT
- Police responded to Woodman's Food Market, 1550 E. Deerfield Parkway, at 3:16 p.m. Jan. 5, for a reported retail theft. Police met with a subject who left the store with $60 of various grocery items without paying. An adjudication citation and trespass warning were issued to the individual and the grocery items were recovered.
- A manager at Walgreen's, 15 N. Buffalo Grove Road, reported at 3:07 p.m. Jan. 7, that earlier a man had walked into the store and then activated an alarm when leaving. The subject walked to a vehicle near Smokey's Discount Tobacco, just north of Walgreens. Another male was driving the vehicle, and they were last seen driving south on Buffalo Grove Road. The manager told police they would send them an itemized list of the items that were taken.
- Police were dispatched to Woodman's Food Market, 1550 E. Deerfield Parkway, at 2:37 p.m. Jan. 9, for a reported retail theft. Upon arrival at the store, police met with a detained female, who had been stopped for shoplifting. An employee had monitored the woman on a surveillance camera when she began acting suspiciously. The manager said the woman didn't scan all the items in her cart — totaling $199.47 — while checking out at the self-checkout area. The woman apologized for her actions and was issued an adjudication citation and a trespass warning.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO PROPERTY
- Police responded to Woodman's Food Market, 1550 E. Deerfield Parkway, at 1:27 a.m. Jan. 8, for a report of vandalism. Police located a vehicle involved as described by a witness. Officers spoke with the occupants, and noted a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was emanating from the vehicle. A manager at the store told police that the subject had entered the bathroom, knocked the soap dispenser off the wall, drew something on a stall door, ate half a candy bar and disposed of the rest on the floor. When the subject exited the store, they threw a bag of salt outside. The manager said the subject had caused less than $500 in damage and wished not to pursue criminal charges, but did want the three involved trespassed from the store. Police cited the with trespass warnings and advised them they would be arrested if they returned to the store. A sober driver was summoned to the scene and gave the three individuals transportation home.
- A resident in the 400 block of Mayfair Lane reported on Jan. 8 that at around 11 p.m. the night before, they had heard an explosion. They later discovered someone had blown up their mailbox.
