Construction Starts On Wheeling Town Center Anchor Tenants

Wheeling Town Center will serve as the anchor to Wheeling's first-ever downtown area.

WHEELING, IL – Construction is officially underway on the anchor tenants at the Wheeling Town Center, which include CMX Cinemas, City Works Eatery and Pour House and Starbucks. The Wheeling Town Center is a mixed-use development that, in addition to the 100,000-square-feet of retailers, restaurants and entertainment venues, will feature a luxury, five-story, 300-unit apartment building and a pedestrian-friendly plaza, according to a news release. The Wheeling Town Center will serve as the anchor for the village's first downtown, according to the Chicago Tribune.

The Landmark Group, developer of Wheeling Town Center, also announced on Monday two new additions to the development: Mia's Cantina and 312 Nails & Spa.

Mia’s Cantina is a popular, locally-owned Mexican grill and tequila bar that has made a name foritself in Chicago area, according to the news release. The Wheeling Town Center restaurant will be Mia's Cantina's third location. The restaurant serves up everything from traditional guacamole to specialty hand-crafted margaritas. The restaurant will include an outdoor patio off of the 4,000 square foot venue.

The $110 development at 351 West Dundee Road will serve as an anchor to the village's first downtown, according to the Chicago Tribune. Wheeling was founded in 1894 but has never had a specified downtown area. The Chicago Tribune reports:

A town center will rise on a 16.2-acre vacant site created by the demolition of the bankrupt Wickes Furniture property on Dundee Road at Northgate Parkway. The site is surounded by existing structures that set the stage for a downtown area, such as the village hall, police and fire stations, park district recreational building, aquatic center, ball fields, a lake and a commuter rail station on Metra's North Central Service line.

The town center is expected to boost Wheeling's population and bring in $1 million per year in sales tax, according to the Chicago Tribune.
