Didech Resigns as Vernon Township Supervisor

Didech will officially take over as the state representative for Lake County's 59th District on Jan. 9.

LAKE COUNTY, IL -- Daniel Didech, D-Buffalo Grove, will resign as Vernon Township Supervisor on Sunday, Jan. 6, as he says he plants to shift his focus to serving the community at the state level. Didech, 30, a municipal attorney and the former assistant counsel to Senate President John Cullerton, defeated Lincolnshire Republican Karen Feldman, 49, a Winnetka-based residential realtor and Lincolnshire village trustee since 2009, in the race to represent Lake County's 59th District during the November election. The district includes all of parts of Buffalo Grove, Deerfield, Lake Bluff, Lake Forest, Lincolnshire, Mettawa, Mundelein, Park City, Riverwoods, Vernon Hills, Waukegan and Wheeling.

“It was an honor to serve our community at the local level,” Didech said. “By working together and understanding the needs of our families, we were able to lower property taxes, make government more transparent and accountable, and improve the services our community relies on.”

An inauguration for the 101st General Assembly will be held on Jan. 9 when legislators will be sworn into office.

Didech ran for supervisor on an anti-establishment message, becoming the first Democrat in Vernon Township elected to the position in over 50 years. According a news release from Didech's office, he successfully fought to lower the township’s property tax levy by over five percent during his first year in office.

Didech is resigning as township supervisor and plans to serve as an "independent voice in Springfield that will fight to lower property taxes for middle-class families, protect health care coverage for pre-existing conditions, and put in place commonsense gun safety measures to protect communities from senseless violence."

“I am proud that in my time as supervisor, we put in place reforms that made local government more transparent and accountable to taxpayers,” Didech said. “Springfield desperately needs a new generation of independent leadership and I look forward to being one of those independent voices.”
