Driver, 79, Killed, 3 Teens Injured In Lincolnshire Crash: Police

The 19-year-old driver of another car and two juvenile passengers were taken to area hospitals following the Tuesday evening crash.

LINCOLNSHIRE, IL — A 79-year-old man is dead and three teenagers were hospitalized following a Tuesday evening car crash at Milwaukee Avenue and Aptakisic Road. William Mooney, of Fox River Grove, was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he was later pronounced dead in the emergency room, according to the Lake County Coroner's Office.

Police were dispatched to the area of the two-vehicle crash at around 8:14 p.m. Upon arrival, they found Mooney unresponsive. A Lincolnshire police officer and members of the Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Protection District immediately initiated CPR and other lifesaving measures.

Police said Mooney was the sole occupant of a 2004 black Lexus RX330, traveling northbound on Milwaukee Avenue, attempting to turn west onto Aptakisic Road. The other vehicle, a 2010 red Toyota Rav-4, traveled south on Milwaukee Avenue and proceeded through the intersection at Milwaukee Avenue and Aptakisic Drive. Occupants of the second vehicle included a 19- year-old driver from Buffalo Grove and two juvenile passengers, ages 16 and 17 years old.

All involved were taken to area hospitals for treatment. Mooney died from blunt force injuries as a result of the crash, according to the coroner's office. The 19-year-old driver was taken to Northwestern Medicine Lake Forest Hospital, where he was treated and released. More treatment was required for the 17-year-old passenger at the time of this report. The 16-year-old received treatment and has been released, according to police.

The Major Crash Assistance Team activated due to the unresponsive subject’s condition. The crash remains under investigation.
