'Enid Is A Treasure': Buffalo Grove Park District Honors Art Teacher
Enid Silverman, 94, started teaching the drawing and painting class at the Buffalo Grove Park District in 1998.

BUFFALO GROVE, IL — For the past four decades, Enid Silverman has been making a difference in the lives of local artists as a teacher for the Buffalo Grove Park District. Silverman, who turned 94 last week, has taught a drawing and painting class at the Alcott Center since 1998 and has no plans to stop.
For her dedication, the BGPD recently dedicated Room 9 at the center as the Enid Silverman Arts Studio.
"What a joy to be honored for doing something I love," Silverman said. "It's a wonderful place to work. The people are so supportive and friendly."

The park district board and staff hosted a ceremony and reception for Silverman's family, friends, and students Thursday that they tell Patch was well attended.

"Enid is a treasure! She started teaching here over 26 years ago and is by far the most popular and most loved instructor I've ever seen here at the Park District," Mike Terson, Buffalo Grove Park District spokesperson, tells Patch. "To be 94 years old and still that dedicated to her craft and her students is truly special."

According to Terson, Silverman has a "cult-like following" with people lining up in the Alcott Center lobby to be one of the first in line on the day registration opens to make sure they get her class.
