BUFFALO GROVE, IL — Stressing it will have no impact on service, Village officials are preparing to open a temporary fire station next month while a new one is built. The current station at 505 W. Dundee Road will be demolished, with construction of a new station beginning at the site in June, with completion scheduled for September 2026.

"The station was built in the mid 70s (constructed in 1975), and we've more or less outgrown the facility," Fire Chief Larry Kane said on BGTV. "Staffing increases have caused us to do that, as well as just modernizing vehicles, sizes of doors, things of that nature."

Demolition for Fire Station 25 is scheduled for April.

In the meantime, work is nearly complete to retrofit the former Public Works building at 51 Raupp Blvd. as the fire department's temporary headquarters. Fire operations will begin at the new location the first week of March, allowing the Village to expedite the reconstruction project and reduce costs, with no impact to emergency response time.

"We want you to feel safe and secure with the idea that there will be no impact on our service level operations, feel free to track our progress over the course of the next year by checking on our website," Kane said.
