Highland Park Police Search For Suspect In Child Luring Incident

HIGHLAND PARK, Ill. - The Highland Park Police Department is urging citizens to be vigilant after a man attempted to lure a 12 year old girl into his vehicle on Tuesday evening.

The incident occurred around 5 p.m. on Oct. 21. According to the police report, the male suspect drove up in a silver Nissan Murano and began talking with the girl. After the man asked if he wanted to go with her, reportedly towards Sheridan Road, the girl declined, scaring the suspect off, and he drove away. The identity of the man is still unknown as of this time.

Police believe that the suspect is a "30-50 year old male, heavyset, dark hair, with a medium complexion." While the investigation is ongoing, the department also put some reminders for parents in their police report regarding communicating stranger danger to kids.

The department's listed tips, per the report, are:

• Don’t talk to strangers who try to talk to you on the way home.
• If the stranger continues trying to talk to you or stops the vehicle, run home or run to the nearest public place and immediately tell an adult what has happened.
• Never walk up to a car of a stranger and NEVER go with a stranger.
• It is best not to walk alone, walk with a friend or a group of students.
• If you have a cell phone, call 911 immediately.
• Try to remember as much as you can about the stranger and the vehicle.
