How Does Your Commute Compare?

A study of commute times shows how much time residents spend in transit.

The majority of Buffalo Grove residents spend less than half an hour commuting to work, according to U.S. Census Bureau survey data that was analyzed by The Business Journals.

Survey results indicate that 54 percent of Buffalo Grove residents spend up to 29 minutes commuting, while about 26 percent drive 30-44 minutes and 19 percent take 45 minutes or more to get to work.

The numbers were slightly better for residents of Wheeling, where 61 percent of commuters take less than 29 minutes to get to work.

In a study of similarly sized towns (population 10,000 to 50,000), The Business Journals determined that the best commute time in the U.S. is in Altus, Okla. There, about 80 percent of residents have commutes of less than 15 minutes.

Nationally, 15.5 percent of workers have commutes of at least 45 minutes, according to The Business Journals.
