IDs Of Couple Found Dead In Wheeling Home Released: Med Examiner

A gun was discovered near the bodies of the couple, who police said were in a "strained" relationship, in an apparent murder-suicide.

WHEELING, IL — The names of the couple found dead in their Wheeling home Thursday night have been released. Marisa Dister, 46, and Russell O'Connor, 44, who police said were in a "strained" domestic relationship, resided in the 300 block of 12th Street.

Dister died from a gunshot wound to the neck, with the manner of death being labeled as a homicide, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office. O'Connor succumbed to self-inflicted wounds from a gunshot to the head.

Police said Friday they believe at this time there is no threat to the public.

Police were called to the home in the 300 block of 12th Street at around 5:42 p.m. Thursday, following a 911 call from a person who had found the two deceased after going to check on them. They were identified as the primary residents of the home. A gun was discovered near the bodies, according to police.
