Kick off summer with WGN and School District 21

On Thursday, June 2, WGN Morning News will broadcast its “Around Town” segment from Chevy Chase Country Club in Wheeling from 7:30 – 9:30 AM.

A buffet breakfast will be served, and to celebrate the anniversary of the release of the Beatles’ “Sgt. Peppers” album, a Beatles tribute band will be on hand and Beatles trivia games will be played. The event is open to the public (all ages) and the suggested donation to attend is $5, which will be donated directly to School District 21's Katie Samsel fund.

Katie Samsel was a principal at Whitman Elementary School and when she passed in 1974, a memorial fund was created with the purpose of helping School District 21 students and their families in an emergency or hardship situation. The function of the fund has varied, from providing eyeglasses to students in need, to helping families that were displaced from their homes due to fire or flood.
