Kilmer students teach classmates how to code

Fifth grade students learned the logic behind computer programming through a recent coding activity lead by their classmates at Kilmer Elementary School. Students navigated through fun and engaging activities to learn the process of coding.

Through Code.org, students interacted with familiar games and characters, like Angry Birds and Minecraft, to better understand the basics of computer science. Coding activities are available for all ages, and Kilmer students in first through fifth grades have all worked with code this year.

“It’s very rewarding to see our students lead each other’s learning and expand each other’s expertise,” said Kilmer principal Diana O’Donnell. “Not only are our students learning how to code, but they are engaging in elements of computer programming and mathematical problem solving with relevant application.”
