Korean Cultural Center of Chicago Receives $600K Grant

WHEELING, IL — The Korean Cultural Center of Chicago, a not-for-profit organization out of Wheeling, has been approved for a $600,000 grant award as part of the National Endowement for the Humanities. U.S. Congressman Brad Schneider (D-Deerfield) made the announcement Thursday with the funds set to renovate Bisco Hall at the center.

The Korean Cultural Center of Chicago was established to provide a physical facility where everyone in the Midwest can show their interest in and promote Korean heritage.

"Chicago’s Korean Cultural Center is a hub for the Korean-American community throughout my district and around Chicago, a sister city to Korea’s city of Busan," Schneider said in a release. "I’m thrilled that the National Endowment for the Humanities was able to make this investment in our area and in our Korean-American community. I will continue to do everything I can to support our Korean-American community and promote local artists."

The KCCOC opened at 9930 Capital Drive in 2010. With a growing Korean population in Chicagoland, the center offers a wide variety of classes, events, and art exhibits and actively contributed to the surrounding communities.

“At the Korean Cultural Center, we are committed to promoting and organizing Korean cultural, arts, educational activities, and strongly encourage cross-cultural understanding that can embrace and empower all people to coexist peacefully," said Yoon Tae Kim, president of the KCCOC. "Now, Korean artists will have the support and space they need to create meaningful works and bring Korean heritage to life in the United States."
