BUFFALO GROVE, IL — Though an investigation continues, fire officials believe a lightning strike was the cause of a house fire that displaced a local family over the weekend. No injuries were reported from the Saturday morning fire, but the home is currently uninhabitable, according to the Buffalo Grove Fire Department.
Firefighters were dispatched at around 4:40 a.m. for a reported structure fire in the 0-100 bock of River Oaks Court East. Intense storms were hitting the northwest suburbs with rain, high winds and lightning at the time of the incident.
On arrival, fire companies encountered fire showing from the roof of the two-story home, according to a news release. Firefighters aggressively entered the home and worked to extinguish the fire that was burning in the attic. It was quickly brought under control, with the assistance of several neighboring fire departments.
