No Charges Filed Yet in Buffalo Grove Home Invasion: UPDATE

One person remained in custody late Wednesday in connection with the early Wednesday attack. Police are working to determine a motive.

BUFFALO GROVE, IL —No charges have been filed in a home invasion in Buffalo Grove that left four family members, and the family’s dog, with stab wounds, the Daily Herald reports.

On Wednesday, three people were questioned in connection with the early morning attack and by late Wednesday night, two of those who had been questioned were allowed to leave while a third person remained in custody, police told the Daily Herald. That person has not been identified and police are still working to determine a motive in the attack.

Police did say Wednesday the home in the 400 block of St. Mary's Parkway in Buffalo Grove was targeted, and the attack was not random. Masked men broke into the home shortly after midnight on Wednesday and stabbed four family members, ranging in ages from 16 to 47, and the family’s dog, a German Shepherd. One of the men wielded a large hunting knife during the attack. A 47-year-old homeowner, who was the most seriously injured in the attack, was able to retrieve and fire a handgun, causing the intruders to flee.

The 47-year-old was stabbed repeatedly and remained hospitalized Wednesday in serious condition. The other family members were treated and released from the hospital on Wednesday and the family’s dog, a German Shepherd, was transported to The Veterinary Specialty Center by an officer. A fifth resident inside the home was not injured, police said during the press conference.

Police said the men smashed several windows and forced open a door to the home to get inside.

Police quickly tracked down persons of interest matching the descriptions of the intruders and police said there was no longer a “threat to the community."

Wheeling officers made contact with the suspected intruders at Lake Cook and Weiland roads and found a large, blood-stained hunting knife and other evidence suggesting their involvement in the attack, according to police. The traffic stop happened around 2 a.m. Wednesday, according to WGN TV.

“Police are confident that there is no further threat to the community,” police said.

No information is available on why this family was targeted and if there are any links between any of the family members and the suspects, WGN TV reported Wednesday morning.

An investigation is ongoing. Patch will update with more information as it becomes available.
