Neighborly Dispute Ends With Thrown Beer Can: Buffalo Grove PD Blotter

BUFFALO GROVE, IL — The following information comes from the Buffalo Grove Police Department (except when noted) and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced.

Updated information may be available from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

Matthew J. Romano, 45, of the 300 block of Hiawatha Drive, Buffalo Grove, is accused of battery, battery to cause bodily harm, and was arrested at 7 p.m. Sept. 29, in the 200 block of Hiawatha Drive. He was released and assigned a court date of Oct. 23. Police arrived at the scene of a neighbor's house where Romano was engaged in a verbal argument in the front yard. Police saw Romano throw a can of beer at the neighbor and hit her.

Victor Hugo Plaza-Alcantar, 34, of the 4100 block of N. Richmond Street, Chicago, is accused of driving under the influence of alcohol, transporting alcohol by a driver, having no taillight, and was arrested at 8:06 p.m. Sept. 30, at Lake Cook Road and N. Milwaukee Avenue. He was released and assigned a court date of Oct. 16.

NO DRIVER'S LICENSE

Martha Ines Moreno Calix, 31, of the 600 block of Independence Drive, Palatine, is accused of having no driver's license, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, and was arrested at 5:50 a.m. Oct. 1, at Lake Cook Road and Raupp Boulevard. Police had been dispatched to the area for a reported hit-and-run. A witness gave a description of the car, which had a damaged front bumper, causing it to drag along the road. Police saw the car involved and pulled over Calix. She was released and assigned a court date of Nov. 15.

INCIDENTS

CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO PROPERTY

Police were called to a home in the 3000 block of Rosyln Lane on Sept. 26 for a suspicious incident report from the previous night. The complainant said her neighborhood had lost power at around 7 p.m. Between 8 p.m. and 8:15 p.m., someone began banging on her front door for several minutes, and she had not been expecting any visitors. She went downstairs to check the front door when she heard a noise by her rear sliding glass doors. She then raised the shade covering the sliders to see who was outside, but she did not see anyone. The complainant found one of the sliding doors slightly ajar, but not open all the way, as the door lock had been engaged. Police found tow pry marks on the door, near the locking mechanism.

BURGLARY TO MOTOR VEHICLE

A complainant called police at 8:03 p.m. Sept. 30, to report a burglary to motor vehicle incident in at the Arboretum Clubhouse, 401 W. Half Day Road. She told police she had parked her car in the north parking lot at 5:15 p.m. Upon returning to the car at 7:30 p.m., she found no signs of forced entry, but something was missing from the center console.
