Neighbors Complain About Halloween Display Traffic: Blotter
Neighbors say Halloween display was bringing in 30-40 cars onto the street, causing issues like blocking driveways: Buffalo Grove Blotter.

BUFFALO GROVE, IL — The following information comes from the Buffalo Grove Police Department (except when noted) and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced.
Updated information may be available from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.
ARRESTS
DRIVING ON A SUSPENDED/REVOKED LICENSE

- Melannie Marquez Garcia, 29, of the 2100 block of Georgetown Lane, Waukegan, is accused of driving on a suspended/revoked license, obstructing identification, operating a vehicle when registration is revoked/suspended, operating an uninsured vehicle, failure to secure a new registration, and was arrested at 6:23 p.m. Oct. 23 at Flex Corp., 700 Corporate Grove Drive. Her bond was set at $2,500, and she was assigned a court date of Nov. 11.
- Israel Garcia-Guzman, 23, of the 1300 block of N Winslow Drive, Palatine, is accused of driving on a suspended/revoked license, lighted lamps violation, issuance of a warrant for battery out of Glenview, and was arrested at 9:32 p.m. Oct 28 at Buffalo Grove and Butternut roads. His bond was set at $2,500, and he was assigned a court date of Nov. 13.
- Avilene Alvarez Pliego, 33, of the 2300 block of W Nichols Road, Arlington Heights, is accused of driving while license revoked/suspended, operating a vehicle with expired registration, and was arrested at 6:11 p.m. Oct. 24 at Aldi, 1202 W Dundee Road. Her bond was set at $2,500, and she was assigned a court date of Nov. 20.
- Akeem Shabazz Coney, 27, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, is accused of driving on a suspended/revoked license, speeding over the statutory limit, and was arrested at 8:10 p.m. Oct. 23 at Lake Cook and Northgate. Bond was set at $2,500, and a court date of Nov. 20 was assigned.
POSSESSION OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE
Nicholas David Harrington, 33, of the 800 block of Balmorial Drive, East Dundee, is accused of possession of a controlled substance (3.1 grams of a white powdery substance that contained cocaine, according to police tests), driving on a suspended/revoked license, no rear registration plate, and was arrested at 9:21 p.m. Oct. 25 at Deerfield Parkway and Larraway Drive. His bond was set at $2,500, and he was assigned a court date of Nov. 12.

INCIDENTS
INFORMATION FOR POLICE
A Mohawk Trail resident reported at 10:40 a.m. Oct. 28 that they had received a series of suspicious phone calls from someone claiming to work for the social security administration. The caller told the resident that their social security number was being used in connection with money laundering. Another person also contacted the resident stating they were with the Illinois State Police, and they were going to stop by their residence to discuss the matter. That person asked the resident for current banking information. The resident did not provide bank account numbers, but did provide bank names, account balances, birthdate and the last four digits of their social security number.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO PROPERTY
A resident in the 300 block of Hawthorne Road, Buffalo Grove, reported at 8:40 a.m. Oct. 25 someone threw a pumpkin at her living room window, shattering the outer pane, during the overnight hours. The pumpkin was previously located on her front porch near the window.
SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT/CIRCUMSTANCES
- A resident in the 200 block of Willow Parkway called police at 5:20 p.m. Oct. 25 to report three unknown males were trying to get her to step outside while they fixed cracks on her front porch. The males left in a white pickup trick, with red five-gallon containers in the truck bed, toward Half Day Road.
- A resident in the 300 block of Dundee Parkway reported at 1:40 p.m. Oct. 24 that they found water-logged garbage in the yard. Two pieces of paper had threatening remarks written on them along with profanities.
HAZARD OR OBSTRUCTION
A resident in the 800 block of Woodhollow Lane reported at 7:06 p.m. Oct. 25 that many cars were parked on the street to see Halloween decorations at a different home. The high volume of cars was making the street difficult to drive on according to the resident. When police passed by, they found about 30-40 cars on the street, parked on both sides of the street. They also found cars blocking residential driveways. The person who put on the display, when contacted by police, said each display sequence last 30 minutes with a five-minute break between. When asked to leave the display off for a bit longer, the person said the sequence was adequate and refused to deviate. They did say they would speak to attendees, request them not to block driveways and park on only one side of the street. They would also make the same request on social media posts.
RETAIL THEFT
An employee at Walgreens, 1225 Dundee Road, called police at 3:53 p.m. Oct. 27 to report that an unknown female selected several over-the-counter medications in lock boxes, and moved to another area of the store not being monitored by surveillance cameras. The female then left the store without the items in her arms and the inventory alarm system rang. She did not stop walking, got into an unknown car and drove away. The value of the items was estimated to be $100.
