Plane Landing to Pick Up Organ for Transplant Slides Off Runway in Wheeling

The crash occurred at about 5 a.m. Tuesday at the Chicago Executive Airport in Wheeling.


No injuries were reported early Tuesday morning when a plane slid off the runway at Chicago Executive Airport in Wheeling, the Chicago Tribune is reporting. The private chartered plane was flying into Chicago to pick up an organ transplant when it slid off the end of the runway and into crushable concrete, according to WGNTV.

There were two pilots on board the Falcon 20 and neither were injured, according to a statement from airport officials. The plane took off from Detroit’s WIllow Run and was landing at about 5 a.m. when the incident occurred.

The FAA is investigating.
