Police Identify Woman Who Died in Fire at Buffalo Grove Gas Station

Evidence at the scene of the fire on Friday and eye witness accounts indicate the woman set herself on fire intentionally.

A woman who died after suffering serious burns at a fire at the Circle K gas station on Friday has been identified, police said Saturday night.

The identity of the woman, whose name is not being released, was not immediately known following the Friday fire. Police said media attention and Facebook posts helped them figure out the identity of the woman, according to a press release.

Eye witness accounts and physical evidence recovered at the scene of the fire at the gas station at 50 W. Lake Cook Road indicate the female intentionally set herself on fire after pouring gasoline onto her clothing and body. As fire officials were on their way to the gas station at about 4:18 p.m. they learned the woman was near the gas pumps, according to a Buffalo Grove Police Department press release.

When firefighters first arrived on scene, they found the woman, who was about 40 years old, with extensive burns to he body, according to the news release.

The woman was taken to the hospital and later died for her injuries. An autopsy is tentatively scheduled for Sunday, February 21.

The fire at the gas station was brought under control within minutes. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
