BUFFALO GROVE, IL — The following information comes from the Buffalo Grove Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

INCIDENTS

RETAIL THEFT

  • An employee of Garden Fresh, 770 S Buffalo Grove Road, reported at 3:25 p.m. May 19 of a retail theft in the store of pork chops, valued at $13. When police arrived, the employee had the person accused of the theft — a 61-year-old Lake Zurich woman —in an office. The employee said the woman placed the pork chops in her purse, paid for other items at the register and then tried to leave the store with the stolen items. The woman admitted to police she took the items because she has no job and her daughter had just had surgery. The employee opted not to press charges, but the woman was told she would be arrested for trespassing if she entered the store again.
  • An employee at Walgreens, 1225 Dundee Road, called police at 1:35 p.m. May 16 to report a man entered the store at 1 p.m., collected a shopping basket and immediately began grabbing items from the cosmetics area. The man left the store with the items quickly without paying. Police determined after watching video footage of the incident that the man was about 6 feet tall, thin build, with long mid-brown hair pulled into a ponytail, and appeared to be in his 20s. His face was not recognizable as he was wearing a face mask. Another customer told police they wrote down the license number of a car the man had entered after leaving the store.

A construction supervisor in the 1100 block of Bristol Lane called police at 3:05 p.m. May 19 to report an employee's property was stolen by a resident. The homeowner told police that the construction crew plugged in their battery and charger into his personal electrical outlet after he had told them not to do it. When he saw it was being done, the homeowner took the items. After conferring with his lawyer, the resident returned the items to the worker. There were no charges.

DISPUTE

  • An employee at the Extended Stay Hotel, 1525 Busch Parkway, reported at 12:43 p.m. May 18 a guest being verbally abusive to staff. The employee told police they no longer wanted the guest to stay at the hotel. A taxi was arranged to take the guest to a different hotel, and they were told by police they would be arrested for trespassing if they returned.
  • An employee at Walgreens, 15 Buffalo Grove Road, called police at 7:52 p.m. May 15 to report a customer at the cash registers causing a scene and yelling. The customer told police he was trying to buy cigars and was being yelled at the employee. The customer said he felt it was case of discrimination and would be contacting the Better Business Bureau. The employee asked for a trespass warning against the employee and was given one. The customer left the store without incident.

UNWANTED PERSON

An employee of 4 Points By Sheraton, 900 West Lake Cook Road, reported at 10:08 p.m. May 15 a patron had harassed her by making comments toward her. The employee notified her manager who wanted to make a police report before having the patron excluded from the hotel. The employee could only provide a name and no other information.

NEIGHBORHOOD TROUBLE

A resident in the 0-100 block of Villa Verde Drive Apartments called police at 2:01 p.m. May 17 to report a neighbor had been making loud noises at all hours of the day. The resident also said someone had been knocking on their door and walking away for the past year-and-a-half.

BATTERY

A person called police at 11 a.m. May 19 to report that when he was walking to his car at Seoul Supermarket, 1204 W Dundee Road, and got about 10 feet from his car, another vehicle struck him. The man thinks he slipped and fell on the ground as the car began to pass. The driver of the other vehicle stopped, got out of the car and yelled at the man for kicking her car. The man told police that as he got up from the ground, the woman pushed him with two hands on his face, and he fell back. The woman got back into the car and left the area. The man gave police a description of the woman and her car.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO PROPERTY

  • A person reported at 5:24 p.m. May 20 driving by the former Chrysler/Jeep Dealers at 925 Dundee Road noticed a large showroom window was damaged at the showroom area of the building. A landscape company employee mowing grass on the property told police the window had been broken for about a month.
  • An employee at the Willow Stream Pool, 600 Farrington Drive, called police at 5:47 p.m. May 20 to report two people trespassing in the locked, fenced area around the pool. A cell phone video taken by another employee recorded the incident. There was no damage to any property and it was unknown how they gained entry at the time of the report.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT

An employee at Belmont Village, 500 N McHenry Road, reported at 1:13 p.m. May 17 that a relative of a resident had called 12 times to speak to the resident even though the resident has a direct line in the room. The employee said the relative had sworn and called the receptionist names, in addition to making a threat days earlier that they would come harm people if they didn't get their way. Later that day, the relative tried to push their way into the residency while retrieving mail even though no one, including family, is allowed in the facility at this time. Police spoke to the relative, who told them they would no longer make any phone calls to the residency.

HARASSMENT BY TELEPHONE

A person reported at 1:51 p.m. May 16 they received a threatening phone call from someone they knew. The person filing the claim told police they were in fear of their life. Police spoke to the other individual and recommended the two stay away from each other, to which they both agreed.

FRAUD

A person called police at 7:25 p.m. May 15 to report fraudulent activity from someone claiming to be a U.S. Marshall via phone. The person said the caller told them there was a warrant for their arrest as their name was connected to narcotics trafficking and money laundering in several South American countries. The person making the complaint purchased a $1,000 Walmart gift card per the caller's instructions. The person was advised by police that this was a scam and call the credit card company they had purchased the gift card with and credit reporting bureaus.

ARRESTS

RECKLESS CONDUCT

Amy D. Huska, 63, of Arlington Heights, was accused of reckless conduct and arrested at 3:22 p.m. May 15 at Lake Cook Road and McHenry Road. Police responded to the Shell gas station at 50 W Lake Cook Road on a report of a traffic collision. An eyewitness said a car had struck the door of a second vehicle twice while the occupant of the latter was out taking photos of possible damage to the rear-end of their car. The driver of the first car, later determined to be Huska, then fled the scene after driving their vehicle into the legs of the person twice, according to eyewitnesses. In addition to the reckless conduct charge, Huska was cited for leaving the scene of an accident, improper use of registration and not having a valid driver's license. She was issued a $2,500 bond and given a court date of June 3.
