Teens Start Dumpster Fire With Fireworks: Buffalo Grove Police Blotter

Police said a group of 8 people were using fireworks in the area when several decided to set one off inside a dumpster behind a business.

BUFFALO GROVE, IL — The following information comes from the Buffalo Grove Police Department (except when noted) and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced.

Updated information may be available from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

Alan Kazbekovic, 26, and Georgii A. Darchiev, 22, both of the 400 block of Allen Court, Wheeling, are accused of retail theft, and were arrested at 6:56 p.m. Feb. 15, at Woodman's Grocery, 1550 E. Deerfield Parkway. The two men were seen on surveillance camera leaving the store with a cart full of groceries, valued at $600.92, without paying for them. They were released on bond and were assigned a court date of March 22.

DRIVING ON A SUSPENDED/REVOKED LICENSE

  • A 31-year-old Mokena man is accused of driving on a suspended license, and was arrested at 7:15 p.m. Feb. 18, at Corporate Grove Drive and E. Busch Parkway. He was released on a $2,500 bond and was assigned a court date of March 10.
  • Robert Hayes Greenwood, 37, of the 1200 block of E. Washington Street, Des Plaines, is accused of driving on a suspended license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, communicating on an electronic device while driving, and was arrested at 5:43 p.m. Feb. 20, at Dundee and Buffalo Grove roads. He was released after posting a $2,500 bond and was assigned a court date of March 10.

INCIDENTS

RETAIL THEFT

Police were called to Woodman's Grocery, 1550 E. Deerfield Parkway, at 12:37 p.m. Feb. 18, for a report of a retail theft. Store employees told police a woman had been detained for leaving the store without paying for $242.03 worth of groceries. All unpaid items were accounted for and returned to the store. The woman was issued a retail theft citation and a trespass notice.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO PROPERTY

Police were called at 11:49 p.m. Feb. 19, to assist the fire department with a dumpster fire at Deerfields Bakery, 201 N. Buffalo Grove Road. A dumpster with trash was discovered on fire at the rear of the building. At around 11:35 p.m. three sedans had arrived in the back parking lot. Eight people were seen getting out of the vehicles and began shooting off fireworks in the vicinity. All subjects appeared to be in their late teens/early 20s. At 11:44 p.m., two of them lit off a firework inside the dumpster. Before leaving, one tried to put the fire out with a water bottle.
