Thieves Steal Nearly $3K In Whiskey From Jewel-Osco: Blotter

BUFFALO GROVE, IL — The following information comes from the Buffalo Grove Police Department (except when noted) and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced.
Updated information may be available from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

Michael E. Lisak, 47, of the 2000 block of Willow Brooke Drive, Woodstock, is accused of driving under the influence of alcohol, failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash, damage to village property, and was arrested at 11:54 p.m. Dec. 25, 2020, at Condell Hospital. His bond was set at $3,000, and he was assigned a court date of Jan. 20.

- A store manager at Woodman's, 1550 E Deerfield Parkway, called police at 11:42 a.m. Dec. 23, 2020, to report two delayed thefts that happened on Dec. 19 and Dec. 22. Security camera footage shows the same female stealing numerous packages of Rogaine, valued at $268.83. She was also seen on video leaving the parking lot in a listed vehicle and proceeding westbound on Deerfield Parkway.
- A manager at Jewel-Osco, 79 McHenry Road, reported at 4:15 p.m. Dec. 23, 2020, that as observed on security camera footage two people entered the store and proceeded directly to the alcohol department. The two loaded two shopping carts with multiple cases of Jameson's Whiskey, valued at $2,878.56. They left the store without paying and exited in a white SUV.
THEFT
A customer at Woodman's, 1550 E Deefield Parkway, reported at 1:54 p.m. Dec. 21 that her wallet went missing from her purse while shopping. The manager checked store security footage and found a female reached into the woman's purse and took her wallet, while she was distracted picking out groceries. The male and female left the store once the female had the wallet in a black Nissan Maxima.
IDENTITY THEFT
- A Diane Drive resident called police at 3:48 p.m. Dec. 21 to report she had clicked on a phishing email and provided personal information. The resident, who said the email looked like it came from her school, stated she was eligible for aid because of a COVID-19 relief bill. She provided her license number, social security number, date of birth, and other information. About an hour later, she received an email from her school stating the school email had been hacked and not to click on the link hackers had provided.
- Officers took phone calls from 51 residents between Dec. 18-27, 2020, regarding being notified by either their respective employers or the Illinois Department of Employment Security that their information had been used without their permission to file for unemployment benefits.
CITIZEN ASSIST
A manager at Woodman's, 1550 E Deerfield Parkway, called police at 5:20 p.m. Dec. 26, 2020, to report two customers inside the store refused to wear a face mask inside the business. The one customer told police she has a medical issued and doesn't need to wear a mask inside the store. Police informed her that the store has clearly posted signs about wearing a mask inside the business, and it has the right to refuse service. Her husband opted to wear a mask and paid for the items. The store did not want the woman banned from the business as long as she wore a mask while inside the store.
NOISE COMPLAINT
A resident in the 1100 block of Gail Drive reported at 9:54 p.m. Dec. 26 that a vehicle with a loud exhaust had been parking on the street several times during the week. The resident said the noise from the exhaust was disruptive. Police located the driver, and he admitted the exhaust on the car was modified. He was informed this is a violation of Illinois Vehicle Code if he did not return his vehicle to the stock configuration.
BURGLARY
- A resident in the 100 block of Lawn Court called police at 8:08 p.m. Dec. 22, 2020, to report an unknown person entered the attic above their locked, attached garage at some time since the prior January. The person then stole several items stored in the attic.
- A resident in the 500 block of Checker Drive reported at 2:25 p.m. Dec. 26 that their home had been burglarized. When they returned from being out earlier in the day, they discovered the downstairs interior garage door was open. Once inside, they found other doors ajar and multiple rooms had been ransacked. It appears the front door had been forced open.
