Trio Charged With Felony Retail Theft: Buffalo Grove Police Blotter

BUFFALO GROVE, IL — The following information comes from the Buffalo Grove Police Department (except when noted) and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced.

Updated information may be available from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

Police responded to Walgreens for the retail theft that had just occurred at 3:32 p.m. Dec. 29, at Walgreens, 15 N. Buffalo Grove Road. Police were told multiple people had left the store with liquor bottles without paying. Police found a suspect vehicle with three occupants. The three — Karol K. Kowalczyk, 38, of Chicago; Sara Dawood, 38, of the 9200 block of Sally Lane, Schiller Park; Krzysztof Kowalczyk, 65, of Chicago — were all charged with felony retail theft. They were all released and assigned court dates in January.

Gino Adams, 31, of the 7900 block of W. Belmont Avenue, Elmwood Park, had a warrant out of DuPage County for bond forfeiture, a suspended license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, operating a vehicle with an expired registration, and was arrested at 12:07 p.m. Dec. 30, at N. Buffalo Grove and McHenry roads. He was released and assigned a court date of Jan. 17.

NO VALID DRIVER'S LICENSE

John J. Ruiz-Molina, 44, of the 2200 block of Nichols Road, Arlington Heights, is accused of having no valid driver's license, operating a motor vehicle with suspended registration, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, and was arrested at 4:29 p.m. Dec. 18 at E. Lake Cook Road and Hastings Drive. He was released and assigned a court date of Jan. 17.

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE

  • Abel Gutierrez Arroyo, 55, of the 500 block of Wimbleton Drive, Prospect Heights, is accused of driving under the influence of alcohol, DUI alcohol with a blood alcohol concentration level of .08 or more, speeding, and was arrested at 12:58 p.m. Dec. 20, at W. Dundee and S. Arlington Heights roads. He was released and assigned a court date of Jan. 15.
  • Hanae Tani, 54, of the 400 block of W. Happfield Drive, Arlington Heights, is accused of DUI alcohol, DUI alcohol with a BAC of .08 or more, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, stopping in a roadway, and was arrested at 10:21 p.m. Dec. 20, at Bernard Drive and S. Buffalo Grove Road. He was released and assigned a court date of Jan. 15.
  • Sheila M. Rhyne, 56, of the 1900 block of Dogwood Drive, Hoffman Estates, is accused of DUI alcohol, disregarding a traffic control light, making an improper turn at an intersection, damage to Village property, and was arrested at 1:25 a.m. Dec. 22, in the 500 block of Estate Drive. She was released and assigned a court date of Jan. 7.
