Wheeling Elementary School Spreads the Love to Hospitalized Children in Chicago

Students and staff from Twain Elementary School in Wheeling are sending handmade valentines decorations to La Rabida Children's Hospital.

Students and staff from Twain Elementary School in Wheeling are sending handmade valentines decorations to the inpatient ward at La Rabida Children's Hospital in Chicago this week. Each classroom chose a child at La Rabida to be the recipient of their artwork as part of the schoolwide kindness project.

Rachel Kekstadt, Twain art teacher, organized the effort after seeing a local grocery store engaging in a similar project.

"Giving students authentic experiences, like creating artwork to make an impact in the lives of other children, makes learning more meaningful," Kekstadt said. "Students love to create a product and share it with others."

The artwork will be delivered Saturday, in time to brighten the halls of La Rabida for Valentine’s Day.
