Village of Buffalo Grove: Be Prepared During Sub-Zero Temps, Snow

With the recent sub-zero temperatures and snow, and more expected in the near future, there is a possibility of interruption of utility services in Buffalo Grove and neighboring suburbs. The Village of Buffalo Grove and the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) are encouraging people to ‘Resolve to be Ready’ for emergencies in 2018.

Residents are advised to have an emergency supply kit stocked, that contains basic survival items which are critical during an emergency. The items that IEMA suggests to have ready include:

•One gallon of water per person per day (a minimum of a three-day supply).

•At least a three-day supply of non-perishable food.

•First aid kit.

•Battery-operated radio, flashlight and extra batteries.

•Items for children, seniors, pets, and household members with health or medical needs.

According to IEMA, disasters often occur with little notice, and having multiple ways to receive important information around the clock - such as through NOAA all-hazards weather alert radios, Wireless Emergency Alerts enabled on smartphones, mobile device apps, TV, radio and the Internet - are vital to be informed and prepared.
