Board Eyes Suit Against State Rep. For Attack Ads Against Mayor

The Burr Ridge Village Board may sue State Rep. Jim Durkin for political ads against Burr Ridge Mayor and challenger Mickey Straub.

BURR RIDGE, IL - The Republican primary in the race for the Illinois 82nd House District heats up as a village board threatens a lawsuit against the campaign of the incumbent. The Burr Ridge Village Board spoke publicly this week about the possibility of filing a lawsuit against State Rep. Jim Durkin for campaign tactics as he faces Burr Ridge Mayor Mickey Straub in the March 20 primary, The Doings publication of the Chicago Tribune reports.

The board drafted a letter to the lawmaker's campaign demanding an apology for political advertisements that were mailed out by a "Citizens for Durkin" group that indicated Burr Ridge has run unbalanced budgets and drove up property taxes during the Straub mayorality.

The village contends that none of that is true and that legal action could be taken if the campaign does not respond before the next village meeting on Jan. 22.
